ball dress design

INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT

This dress was an independent project that I did for my own year 12 ball. My role on this project was purely as the designer of the dress itself as I worked with a dress making company who brought the design to life for me to be able to wear.

DESIGNING THE DRESS

This project came about in a spontaneous and unexpected decision to design my own dress for my year 12 ball in 2017 that was coming up at the beginning of the year in March. Throughout my childhood I had always been more tomboy-ish so if anyone had of told my younger self that I would be designing a dress for myself I wouldn't have believed them. It came about really fast where I was aimlessly sketching designs onto templates of models for fashion designing. I eventually started working on a design that I ended up loving, really putting the effort into finishing the sketch to my full ability and was no longer just scribbling dresses. Although it I started to think about possibly making it in to an actual dress, it still took me a little while before I completely committed to the idea of it and then from there it was full steam ahead. I took my sketch that I had done on paper into Procreate, a mobile drawing application, to tidy it up and add colour to it to finish up the design to a more professional standard.

PROGRESS OF PROJECT

Anchor 1

My role in the project was purely just as the designer so after the dress had been designed and I was happy with the style, colours and embellishments I took my design to a local fashion designer who could make the dress for me, Timeless Constance Design. I met with Tanika and her mother who run the business and had multiple consultations with them to get the dress perfect. Below are images of how the dress came along.
